Eli's Ears

Cool hospital socks!

After months of ear infections and fluid on his ears, Eli was finally sent to the specialist!! After a short evaluation the doctor recommended tubes for Eli!! We are so happy that he will finally be out of pain and be able to hear clearly. It was amazing how short the actual surgery was, less than 30 mins. He was a trooper. We got a very early appointment, they got him right in and we were home before 10am. Grandma came to visit and brought a blow up dinosaur! Eli got a blue latex glove as a hospital souvenir and chased me all over the house with it. Its been 2 weeks since the surgery, he is talking more clearly and expanding his vocabulary. Yipee!!!

Happy Holidays!!!
Matt, Eli and I have had a wonderful year so far and are excited for 2011! Eli is growing and changing tons. He is a huge fan of Thomas the Train. He loves garlic pretzels and butter, just not together. Yes, butter. He even sneaks it! He loves preschool. He was just in the preschool holiday program. It was fun to see him up on the stage with a santa hat on. He even sang a song or two, the other songs he just stood there saying "daddy" cause he could see Matt and wanted to come and sit with him. The other day Matt said "I need a hug" to Eli. Eli looked at him and said "I need more trains" and walked out of the room. Eli loves running and spinning on the new floors downstairs! It is super funny.
Matt is keeping busy with work and his side business. He enjoys working with the youth at church. For my birthday he made me the most amazing photo book of our life together so far. It was amazing and took him many hours to complete. He is the best husband EVER! We have been watching Man vs. Food lately and making plans to cook up some of the amazing foods we see.
I have been crafting, wrapping and all the other holiday stuff we women do. I love this time of year; Christmas music, nativities, decorations, wrapping presents etc. I am so thankful for the birth of our Savior!
We are praying to adopt soon. We are fully aware that it is in the Lords hands. Thanks for all the love and support in that area.

We lost our camera this summer and then recently found it!!! Here is a late posting of summer fun at the lake. We had amazing weather and awesome friends to make it one of our favorite memories of this year. Eli loved playing with Kaelynn and being able to see deer up close.

Adoption Process Update

Matt and I are in the final stages of getting approved to adopt again. We are waiting on fingerprint results and then the final "OK" from LDS Services. We submitted the fingerprints end of May so anyday we should hear something. After that we begin waiting for a birth mother/father to chose us as their adoptive family. For those of you who don't know exactly how the process works from here I will tell you. Once we are "approved", we will pop up on the website: Itsaboutlove.com and birth mothers and fathers can view our profile and read about us and decide if they want to get to know us better and if we may be a good fit for their child. Adoption is all about WAITING! Waiting for the appts, referral letters, home study, classes, paperwork, fingerprints, background check, etc....and then finally...a MIRACLE and it is all worth it!! Eli was worth every minute of waiting! I know the next little kiddo(s) will be too!! Eli has been telling me that his toys are "broke" and then wants to play with the screwdriver and "fix" them. He learned this from watching Matt and I replace the batteries in his trains over and over and over again. I absolutely love watching him concentrate and work so hard "fixing" Buzz or the trains. Good work, Eli!!

Fish Day

I decided today that Eli needs a fish. I was feeling sorry for him today because he has been sick so much this winter and has to stay home a lot. Tonight Matt and I got him 6 little goldfish. Eli LOVES the fish and says the word fish constantly. He helped feed them tonight and tried to touch the ones near the top. He was hugging the fish container because he thought we would try to move them away from him. So far they are the perfect pet!

Here are some pics of our Holiday season. It was fun to see Geoff and Fanica with Bailey and samuel. They got to stay for almost 2 weeks. This year at mom and dads house we did a nativity with kids and some adults on Christmas Eve. It turned out to be a fun night! Yes, that is grandmas cane in Matts hand! I love new traditions! Does anyone watch Modern Family? The episode where they do fireworks on Christmas looked like a great one!

It has been so long since i last made a post! We are doing well, Eli is growing up WAY too fast! We no longer have foster kids or Voodoo our dog. We are hoping to adopt again soon, please keep us in your prayers. I will start posting fun pics again now! xoxo

San Juans!!

At the end of June our family went to the San Juans! We got to ride on the ferry to Orcas Island and then stayed in a yurt for the long weekend. There were deer walking around and racoons that were not afraid of humans. David and Matt enjoyed the fishing and the girls enjoyed going on walks around the beautiful resort. It had the coolest set up, very earth friendly, shared kitchens for the guests, very clean showers and amazing view of the surrounding islands.
Also, for those of you who have not already heard D girl and Bubba moved from our home into a long term foster home that is a better fit for them. We miss them but know that this is the right decision for everyone. Once again we are on a search for the next member of our family! Wish us luck and please keep us in your prayers. Thanks for all of your love and support during all of this!

Spring Break trip to the zoo was a blast!! All the kids had fun even though it was a little chilly. They got to see tons of animals. Eli loved the monkeys the best. He was pressing himself against the glass to get a better view. It was cute to see his reaction to the animals. The little petting zoo area was fun, they got to feed hay to the goats.

Emily showed Eli her pet chickens the other day. Eli loved them and laughed a lot. The chickens have cool names like "Goldie, Cobra, Jacob" etc...Eli and Emily played while Jami and I did some canning and enjoyed catching up. It was a super fun day for everyone!!

Shannon had a birthday in March so we celebrated with a potluck dinner and yummy chocolate cake! It was fun to have the cousins together and watch them interact. Last weekend Eli, Gina and I flew to California to visit Geoff, Fanica and Bailey. It was fun to see the cousins play together. Bailey taught Eli how to give kisses and Eli loved sharing his sippy cup. Here are some pics of the weekend. Geoff is enjoying the Navy. Fanica is looking great this pregnancy! She is having a boy, Samuel Dean Schmidt, due in May. Bailey is such a busy little girl! She is so polite always saying thank you to everyone and blowing kisses. We sure miss them and are glad they are doing well down in San Diego.

A few weeks ago church was cancelled because of the snow and I was SO excited because I was scheduled to give a talk. I do NOT like to speak in public which may come as a surprise because I really like talking any other time:) Anyways, we walked over to the Dooleys house and had a BBQ. It was lots of fun watching the snow fall outside and drinking hot cocoa inside!! It turned out that all the talks were rescheduled and I ended up giving my little shepherd talk anyway the following week...of coarse!lol!!

This year the Waddell Clan decided to celebrate Christmas in Novmeber. Eli loves his auntie Lulu and wont let anyone else touch his hair. She makes haircuts fun and lets Eli eat snacks if he is being good. He loves standing up in his highchair and looking around. Last weekend we went to Cousin Claire's first Birthday party! It was great to see so many of our favorite faces and catch up with everyone! Claire wasnt so sure about the whole cake thing at first but caught on really quickly once she tasted the frosting!! Last month Matt went black powder hunting and shot a white tail 3 point buck. Eli and I joined him for a few days. It was beautiful in Lyle, lots of trees changing colors for fall. We took our tent trailer and stayed really warm thanks to Gregg and his obsession with tarps and heaters. Matt and I have been going back and forth about putting a picture of the deer Matt shot on the blog. I say NO dead animals and he wants to know "why not?". We decided to compromise and put up this picture off the internet.By the way, deer meet is really good cooked in BBQ sauce!!

Eli loved his costume birthday party! The kids looked adorable in their cute little costumes running around playing. Eli dressed up in his Seahawk outfit. He loved his football cake and threw a huge fit when daddy tried to help him get a better hold of his huge bite!! Eli has 11 teeth now and is pulling himself up the furniture...watch out!! He loves to feed himself and is doing pretty good with a sippy cup as long as someone is helping him! Eli is the best thing that has ever happened to Matt and I and we are very grateful for him.

Yesterday I left Eli alone and ran to go get something, when I returned I found him getting into Voodoo's dog dish and helping himself to some chow. I knew that someday he would try this trick but I had no idea it would be this soon. Eli is growing up so fast. He has 6 teeth now and loves to eat food more than have his bottles now. He will be a year old on the 26th!!

Pumpkin Patch on a Perfect day!!

This weekend we went to Sauvie's Island to enjoy the beautiful sunshine! The Pickell and Dooley families joined us as we wandered around all of the straw covered fields. The farmers market was amazing, we bought the biggest zuccinni I have ever seen for only two dollars!! The hot corn on the cob with butter was amazing and so was the kettle corn. The kids loved the animals in the barn and also playing in the hay pyramid. There were hay rides and cow train rides. Erin got to ride the cow train with Rianne!! What a good sport!! There are u-pick flowers in every color and size, I picked some to display on the table at home. We didnt forget to buy a couple of pumpkins to complete the trip.

This summer my sister, Jami, taught me how to can fruit! It is harder than it looks but is worth it when you taste the yummy goodness! Mom and dad donated tons of jars to the effort, what a big help. Matt even joined the effort when we did pears. Jami was super sweet to let us use her house for peaches, we filled the entire kitchen with our project supplies, you should have seen it!! Eli Adoption Complete!!

We are so blessed to have Eli as our son! This week Matt, Eli and I drove to Seattle for our court hearing. The adoption is legal and done now...finally! Our lawyer was super nice and funny too! The judge was relieved to have such a feel-good case as a change of pace! We are so thankful to our family friends for supporting us through the whole process, we had a much better experience that way! xoxo
